Arthur Harverd MBE

We are delighted to announce that IDR Group member Arthur Harverd has been awarded an MBE in the 2021 New Year Honours List. The MBE- Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire- was awarded to Arthur with the citation “Chairman of the Enemy Property Claims Assessment Panel. For Services to Arbitration.”

During the Second World War the UK government confiscated assets in British territories owned by residents of enemy countries under the Trading with the Enemy Act 1939.

The Enemy Property Payment scheme was established to compensate those who had their assets in the UK incorrectly confiscated. Claimants could be victims of Nazi persecution or those who were only considered ‘enemies’ at the time because their countries were under occupation.

Arthur was appointed by the UK Government in 1999 as a member of the Enemy Property Claims Assessment Panel. He is a past chairman of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and past chairman of the board of the London Court of International Arbitration.

Arthur’s appointments as arbitrator, both UK based and internationally, cover such diverse areas as commercial contracts, financial services, partnerships and sports disputes. He is a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Textile Institute.
