Geoffrey Beresford Hartwell (U.K.)

Geoffrey Hartwell is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Arbitrator, a FIDIC accredited Adjudicator and NMA certified Mediator. A past Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and President of the Society of Construction Arbitrators, Geoffrey is a Visiting Professor of Arbitration Law at the University of South Wales (formerly the University of Glamorgan). He has retired from his former practice as Senior Partner of BHA Cromwell House, Consulting Engineers, and now specialises in Arbitration and other aspects of Dispute Resolution, together with technical advisory assignments.

Geoffrey’s original training as a seagoing Engineer Officer was followed by periods in Aerospace and in Nuclear Energy and Civil Power Generation before a time in General Management and Electronic Design. In forty years of Private Practice, his projects have included the modernisation of The Tower Bridge, London, extensions to the Lindsey Oil Refinery, the centralised control of water supply in East Anglia, alterations to the sewage works at Ulu Pandan, Singapore, and a roll-on, roll-off harbour for the ferry port of Yarmouth, Isle of Wight.

He is listed as an Adjudicator by FIDIC, as an Arbitrator by ICDR (the international arm of AAA) by CIETAC and by KLRCA among other institutions. He has acted as Chairman and Arbitrator in ICC arbitrations.
