Member of UK Delegations to several law-making conferences, including the Vienna Conference on the Law of Treaties (1969), the Third UN Conference on the Law of the Sea (1973-1976), the UN Secretary-General’s Consultations about Part XI of the Law of the Sea Convention (1990-1994), and the UN Fish Stocks Conference (1993-1995). Leader of UK delegations for maritime boundary negotiations 1982 – 1996. Member of UK Delegations for the Berlin Quadripartite Talks 1970-1972 and the “Madrid Process” with Argentina during the 1980s.
Author of “Modern Law of the Sea- Selected Essays” (Martinus Nijhoff, Leiden, 2007). Contributor to “The Statute of the International Court of Justice – A Commentary” (OUP, 2006) and “The Oxford Encyclopedia of Maritime History” (OUP, 2007) as law editor.
Member of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, the British Branch of the International Law Association, Association internationale du Droit de la Mer, American Society of International Law.
