International Law Institute (Washington, D.C.), senior fellow, 2002 to date.
Teacher in U.S. law schools:  University of  Pennsylvania Law School, lecturer in international commercial arbitration, 2009 to date, Georgetown University, adjunct professor of law (international commercial arbitration), 2003-08, University of Virginia, lecturer in international commercial arbitration, 1991-2001.
Practice in international law firms in Washington, DC: Holland & Knight LLP (partner, 1998-2002), Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP (partner, 1985-98),  Wald Harkrader & Ross (partner, 1980-85), Covington & Burling (associate, 1961-64).

Arbitration and Mediation Experience includes:
Counsel:  More than 60 international arbitrations and mediations under AAA, ICC, ICDR, UNCITRAL and other rules, in United States, England, Puerto Rico and the Netherlands.  Matters have included disputes involving sovereign governments and governmental entities, commercial and construction contracts, and projects and contracts in both developed and developing countries.  Published awards in cases handled include the following Iran-United States Claims tribunal awards:  Phillips Petroleum Company Iran v. Islamic Republic of Iran (1989); FMC Corporation v. Ministry of National Defense (1987); Motorola, Inc. v. Iran Nat ‘l Airlines Corporation (1988); Schlegel Corp. v. Nat’l Iranian Copper Co. (1987).
Arbitrator: Sole arbitrator, chair or tribunal member in approximately 30 arbitrations under rules of American Arbitration Association  and its affiliate for international arbitrations the International Commercial Dispute Resolution Centre, International Chamber of Commerce; and ad hoc arbitrations.
Mediator:  Under rules of CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution; and ad hoc.
Consultant:  Advisor to governmental officials and judges on the drafting of arbitration and mediation laws, and the establishment of arbitral institutions in, among other countries and institutions, Armenia, Bulgaria, Pakistan, the East African Court of Justice, and the Court of the Economic Community of  West African States.
