Dr. Randall Gossen (Canada)
Dr Randall Gossen was elected President of the World Petroleum Council at its global congress in Johannesburg, South Africa in September 2005 and was re-elected at the Madrid congress in June 2008.
The WPC was founded in London in 1933. It provides a forum for discussing issues facing the oil industry on a worldwide basis and is strictly a non-political and non-advocacy organization. It is dedicated to the application of scientific advances in the oil and gas industries, to technology transfer and to the use of the world’s petroleum resources for the benefit of mankind. The WPC’s sixty member countries represent over 90 per cent of the States producing and consuming oil and gas.
Dr Gossen, whose PhD is in Soil Microbiology, is also Vice president of Global Business Relations at Nexen, Inc., Calgary, Canada. Nexen is one of Canada’s largest exploration and production companies with operations in Canada, USA, Yemen, Colombia, UK North Sea, Norway and offshore West Africa. The company is committed to the United Nations Global Compact. Dr. Gossen serves as a Special Advisor to the Global Compact.
His experience includes working for the Arctic gas pipeline project where he was responsible for environmental research. He also worked with Imperial Oil Ltd where his assignments included managing an oil sands project in northern Alberta.
Randy Gossen was one of the drafters of the International Code of Ethics for Canadian Business, helping to ensure that companies uphold certain standards in the areas of human rights, community participation, environmental protection, business conduct, employee rights, and health and safety.
